Second 8 days of Sketchpacking
with an invite to try it for yourself
Second batch of daily sightings in my small activated sketchbook is now behind me so I can share what appeared in the pages from day 9 to 16.
I was so excited to start with day 9 that I completely forgot to take before photo! So I’ll now share pages 9 and 10 without the “before” version. So sorry about this, sometimes I wish there was an “undo” button in real life too :)
I used thicker line on my left page to bring forward what was in front but I don’t think it quite worked. I must admit I also really like thin lines so I guess this had something to do with it as well.
Here’s my empty spread for days 11 and 12:
and here’s what I saw on it:
That pink pop of colour was really something else and I find it really interesting how this lady managed to appear on both pages. Or maybe they are distant cousins who live on different planets. Who knows. Both were delight to uncover.
Pages 13 and 14 were totally different!
At first I was a bit “uh-oh” when I saw those straight lines but then the houses on top of the middle line appeared and I went from there. It’s really all I need - notice one thing, outline it and then the next one appears. Sometimes they appear to be connected, sometimes it’s a bunch of crazy wonderful creatures but I don’t care, I just have fun finding them. Pages 13 & 14 after my play:
I was told that what I’m doing is called Pareidolia and here’s what Wikipedia tells me about it:
Pareidolia (/ˌpærɪˈdoʊliə, ˌpɛər-/;[1] also US: /ˌpɛəraɪ-/)[2] is the tendency for perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus, usually visual, so that one sees an object, pattern, or meaning where there is none.
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations, seeing faces in inanimate objects, or lunar pareidolia like the Man in the Moon or the Moon rabbit. The concept of pareidolia may extend to include hidden messages in recorded music played in reverse or at higher- or lower-than-normal speeds, and hearing voices (mainly indistinct) or music in random noise, such as that produced by air conditioners or fans.[3][4]
Scientists have taught computers to use visual clues to "see" faces and other images.[5]
I must add my 2 cents to this and say, that I have friends who actually see, hear or feel energy/beings that reside in higher frequencies, so one cannot say something is not there if they don’t perceive it. I too sometimes catch glimpses of higher reality and this is why I wanted to write this down.
Moving onto days 15 and 16 which reside in the middle of my little sketchbook. This means that both pages are on the “same” page so to speak :D Ok, it’s a full spread so I was able to draw one bigger image. Only to find really weird thing… Here’s the empty spread:
And here’s what jumped out at me:
I love all the little creatures but I’m a bit frightened of the big one. Although now that I see him/it/her on my screen, it feels like it’s frightened too. Odd stuff indeed.
Come Join Me!
And here comes a really exciting part! Well, for me anyway. My friend Ilana from Curious Kittens Soapbox suggested I could share my empty pages in advance so that others might give this “seeing thing” a try too. And then compare what they see to what I see and enjoy the similarities and differences.
I found this idea absolutely fabulous and I immediately scanned a few pages and prepared them to be experienced in their real size - the size I am working on.
Soooo, here’s my invitation to you: print these out and have fun outlining / coloring / collaging over. Basically, do whatever you want creatively with them and try and do one per day from August 17th to August 24th so that we’ll be creating them together. Come back here and let me know if you do this as I’d really love to see your findings. I wish photos could be added to comments but if you can, publish them elsewhere and link to them in your comment under this post. I’ll be over the moon happy when I see them :)
Here they are:
Right click to save them on your computer and print them out. If you have the means, work on them digitally. In any case, have FUN with your sightings!
See you in 8 days, I really hope you will give this a try. It’s a really cool exercise, I promise :)
With much love,
♥
