Hello, hope your Monday has been good to you so far :)
We are starting week 3 with another creative boost and I went back to inky splashes, but that awaits you way below. First, I would like to share - in hopes to inspire - what happened on my page.
I’m printing these out on Daler Rowney’s Aquafine, smooth, watercolor paper, 300 gsm. I have a thick pad that is conveniently called JUMBO (because it has 50 sheets in it) and I must say that it prints really well and I love using it. Las week I used watercolors and a bit of colored pencils, this week I went with colored pencils mostly and some sort wax-y type of pencil (Sharpie’s peel off china marker that writes on pretty much everything) and just a wee bit of watercolors - lower left corner.
I started by rotating my print to see what jumps out at me. As I didn’t want to work on a skull I kept rotating the paper until something else emerged. And it was a face again! I was really surprised that it was a sort of an anime character (if it’s called anime, could be manga too, lol, correct me please). So I outlined it with a dark colored pencil:
Then I went in with the black china marker (no idea why, I just wanted to see how it works plus I know it’s waterproof in case I was going to use watercolors next). I also went over this said china marker with my Uniball pen later.
Here’s what I had line-work wise. Please note that my paper is taped on a food cutting board (plastic, very nice, can’t find them anymore) and both are being held by my tablet stand I got from Ikea. It makes a HUGE difference if my surface is tilted as the neck doesn’t suffer as much as if my paper lies flat on the table. If you have such a stand, use it, I really recommend it.
I then felt like using my beloved colored pencils so I started adding colors, whatever I felt like using at the moment. Here are some details from the finished page:
I believe I could still keep going but I was tired and other things needed my attention ( I was playing with this for about 3 hours I think). So here’s how it looks:
It’s really interesting to see what appeared or what I was drawn to draw (hehe, love this expression :) ). It’s kinda creepy too but in an interesting sense. At least to me :)
I’d love to know how this process is working out for you. What are you finding? Is it fun?
And before I say “see you in the next one”, I better post our Week 3 image:
Please let me know how you feel about colored images vs. black&white ones. I know we don’t all have color printers at home but if I post a colored image everyone can print it black&white if they choose to do so, right? Lemme know, ok?
Soooo…. I am looking forward to seeing what appears for me this week and if you would like to share what you found, please do so. In the chat here, comment below (I think it should be working) or on IG with the #creatingwithnini hashtag.
This is it from me for this week. I am wishing you a lovely creative week full of love and light.
With much love,
♥
Nina
P.S.
If there are any art supplies questions lemme know about them, I love sharing what I know :)
